World Cup Soccer Ball

The choice of the world cup soccer ball is the result of careful analysis, lots of monitoring, plenty of testing and approval procedures. The fact that companies have their soccer balls tested for guaranteed quality shows value for money and respect for customers. The world cup soccer ball are available on the international market in thousands of copies and all the products in such lines correspond to the criteria necessary for FIFA approval and inspection logos. Even indoor soccer matches rely on pre-tested and pre-approved gear, following the same quality and inspection standards.

Before the world cup soccer ball is chosen, the standard procedure requires that several steps be undergone. Every manufacturing company that requires the FIFA Inspected status needs to submit seven balls, or if they need the FIFA Approved logo, then ten samples will be necessary. The testings are run at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research located in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Only a FIFA Approved item will eventually become the world cup soccer ball design. Besides such approvals, there is a less demanding one known as the International Matchball Standard, which can be granted by any of the seven European test institutes that work with FIFA.

The world cup soccer ball needs to pass seven types of tests that aim at analyzing the potential of the ball. The seventh test checks the shooting features such as size and shape retention as well as the pressure change during the shoot. The ball is approved by FIFA only if the pressure change is below 20%, and the Inspected status is granted to soccer balls that change pressure with up to 25%.

The world cup soccer ball used at the 2008 Olympic Games was manufactured by Adidas, the official sports partner for the Beijing Games. An incredibly popular souvenir to many people, this Olympic world cup soccer ball had gold Chinese characters reading China. Producers continue to compete for the next world cup soccer ball models, making efforts to come up with new designs and better features that would qualify them for the world cup title. New high tech materials become an important part of the production, and superior properties are available. Thus, the force in the kicking transfer, the flight accuracy, the waterproofness and many others should make any future world cup soccer ball special.

Soccer Balls

The key element for one of the most popular sports in the world, soccer balls come in different designs, sizes and weights. Plus, the materials used for the construction of the soccer balls are also very diverse, directly influencing the features of the finite products as well as the price. Consider the following technical details that few people know about the structure of the soccer balls.

The surface of soccer balls consists of several coverings that are not made of natural leather as it seems at first sight but they are manufactured from lightweight plastic that keeps the balls dry. Synthetic leather is the most commonly used, being made of poly vinyl chloride or PVC and polyurethane. Even the types of artificial leather remain a mystery to most soccer fans, because these patterns too, come in great number of varieties.

Depending on the design of the soccer balls, the various segments of the exterior cover, also known as the panels, present specific features. There can be 32, 26 or 16 panels  with the mention that 32-panel variant is normally used in the majority of official games. Yet, the others are popular in all sorts of major leagues as well, mainly in Scotland and England. After being sewn together and inflated, the panels create the nearly perfect sphere that we call soccer ball.

Between the external covering and the internal bladder that holds the air, soccer balls have some special material incorporated, which is called the lining. Laminated cotton or polyester are normally used for the intermediary layer, and they play an important part in the bouncing and strength features of the ball. For professional soccer balls, up to four or five linings are used, while promotional items and practice balls contain fewer such structures.

Differences of material do exist in the structure of the bladders as well. Soccer balls can be made either from latex or butyl. While the surface tension brought by latex or natural rubber is unparalleled, the tiny pores in the structure of this material cause the soccer balls to deflate.

This means that you’ll have to re-inflate the ball at least once a week to maintain pressure and keep the ball practical. Butyl soccer balls on the other hand have an excellent air retention capacity and rely on valves for this process.

Soccer Ball Pattern

A trained eye who loves football will often recognize a soccer ball pattern without any difficulty. However, if you have no soccer experience it is almost impossible to identify common features in game structure and the way the players try to score, move, dribble or pass the balls. In experts’ opinion the soccer ball pattern results from very good analytical thinking and quality training. When a player masters the technique and uses personal experience or knowledge on the field, the benefits extend to the entire team. Moreover, the soccer ball pattern is not something performed individually, since it depends on the unity in the soccer formation.

The way the team colleagues work together is developed during trainings, and the coach is the one to teach the soccer ball pattern so that the players have a good performs for the assigned individual position on the field. The full mastery of the soccer ball pattern comes in time and involves a constant evolution. Thus, competing teams often study the opponents’ strategies to understand where the strength or the weakness comes from, where the attack is at its highest or where it lacks in intensity. The entire team contributes to the creation of the soccer ball pattern since it is not the merit of one individual alone.

Amateurish players face difficulties in developing a real soccer ball pattern, but for hobby playing it is not even important to have great skills. Most of the time players stick to a certain way of moving on the field and only very often really manage to change the quality of their game. This can make success harder to get on the field, but since we are not talking about professional achievements, things should remain relaxed. Therefore, the soccer ball pattern is not an objective in itself when playing for sheer personal pleasure.

To sum it up, the soccer ball pattern develops only by team playing particularly in professional leagues and championships. Although not easy to identify and characterize by an untrained eye, it is an inherent part of the training standards specific to every team. Every player needs to contribute to the creation of the soccer ball pattern and thus get closer to winning goals for his/her team. Yet, if the pattern is to blame for the lack of success attributed to various matches, it will most often be replaced or changed.

Soccer Ball Size

The standard soccer ball size should be 27-28 inches in circumferences and 14-16 ounces in weight with a pressure of 8-12 psi. However, when referring to the soccer ball size, people bring the 1 to 5 sizes into discussion. In the size 1 and 2 categories only practice and promotional balls are included, while from size 3 upwards, the soccer ball size follows the age group criteria. On the average, the standard soccer ball size is 5. Any item below this range represents small-field variants, children’s gear or as novelty items. It may be helpful to know something about the soccer ball size when going shopping.

Soccer ball size 3 includes the smallest balls used for soccer games. They are especially designed for the group age under eight. Such balls weigh only 12 ounces and are not larger than 24 inches in diameter. Slightly bigger, soccer ball size 4 has 13 ounces in weight and 26 inches in circumference. This size targets group age from 8 to 12. However, mention must be made here that size 4 is often chosen for indoor soccer matches because of the peculiarity of the field and the size of the goals. Moreover, depending on the league, requirements vary as well.

The soccer ball size peculiarities represent a distinct part in the official laws of the game and competent international associations approve them. All the manufacturers comply with the regulations, although certain manufacturers prefer only the soccer ball size 5 which is also the official one. Rigorous testing and  approvals are necessary for the items used in the official matches as they are selected after careful examination and profile analysis only. The balls will afterwards receive the approval imprint logo. The amateur soccer ball needs to be a little familiar with the ball sizes in order to make a smart purchase.

If you shop in a regular sports store, it should not be so difficult to determine which soccer ball size suits your purposes. You may not know the soccer ball size when you order such an item online. If you don’t have them in front of you, understanding the inch or metric specifications could be difficult for the untrained eye. Therefore, knowing the specifics of every soccer ball size and classification category will be of great help. Finally, remember that some leagues have special requirements, and you need to comply with those when choosing your gear. Better learn which is the soccer ball size they work with and shop afterwards.

Soccer Ball History

Some would say soccer is the most popular game in the world; we are not sure about that, but it is definitely one of the oldest. The soccer ball history is in fact the history of soccer. When talking about soccer ball history there are several periods to distinguish. Thus we can talk about early ball history, the balls in the 1800s, balls in the 1900s, and the modern times.

Early soccer ball history starts before the birth of Christ. It is known that people have liked kicking either a ball or something similar to one, since the beginnings of times. Indians in South America are known to have used a light elasticized ball, which is amazing since rubber started being produced only a few thousand years later. The early soccer balls consisted of different items from animal and human skulls to pig or cow bladders and wrapped up cloth. Between 255 BC and 220 AD, the Chinese played ‘tsu chu’ using animal-skin balls dribbled through gaps in a net stretched between two poles. Ancient Romans and Greeks played a game which involved kicking and carrying a ball, whereas in certain ancient Egyptian rites are said to have had similarities with soccer.

Pre-medieval and medieval legends and stories that can be considered as part of the soccer ball history, also mention the use of animal bladders or skulls to play games similar to modern soccer. An instance of the use of an animal bladder ball is presented in the legend about the ‘game’ between two villages. An entire village ran and kicked a ball with the purpose of getting it into the other village’s square. The other villagers will make similar attempts. In medieval times they used the bladders from animals killed for winter sustenance. They used to inflate them and then try to keep the ‘ball’ in the air by by means of both feet and hands. In time people noticed that covering the bladder with leather would maintain the shape better and longer.

The soccer ball history of the 1800s was marked by the 1836 patenting of vulcanized rubber by Charles Goodyear. In 1855 the same Charles Goodyear designed and then built the first vulcanized rubber soccer balls. In 1862 H.J. Lindon came up with one of the first inflatable bladders for soccer balls. Although he is the father of the rugby ball too, he did not patent the idea at the time because of the preference for the round ball. By the 1900s the soccer ball history had already enjoyed the use of stronger rubber balls that could withstand heavier and heavier pressure.

Pictures Of Soccer Balls

The soccer ball is the element that makes this game one of the most popular sports throughout the world, among people of all ages and social statuses, both children and grown-ups, males and females without any distinction whatsoever. In time, there have been huge changes that this central element, the soccer ball, has undergone. Books and soccer history records still have all sorts of pictures of soccer balls that show the development to the present day form. Such soccer ball pictures can also be accessed on the Internet for download, or they can be uploaded by those who know how.

Probably the Internet is more easily available than the soccer history books. Besides, the thousands of pictures of soccer balls online have the advantage of impeccable digital quality as compared to the paper printed ones. The speed of accessing, using and importing the pictures further speaks in favor of the Internet rather than the book usage. With a few clicks of the mouse you’ll get true slide shows including pictures of soccer balls and more.

The pictures of soccer balls are normally displayed for advertising or commercial purposes. Therefore, before ordering a product online, it is only natural to preview it first. The balls used in football/soccer associations are, according to the specifications under Law 2, air field spheres with a circumference of 68-70 cm, inflated to a pressure of 60-110 kPa, a weight of 410-450 g and covered in leather or other suitable materials. All these details usually appear together with the pictures of soccer balls you will find on the net, whether they are meant for children use, professional players’ use or any other purposes. Thus, if you would like to buy a giant soccer ball, for instance, you will check for such details together with the price for each product presented in each picture.

There are also charity sites which present the pictures of soccer balls that have become famous throughout the world in time. Such items are both popular and sometimes a rarity and they get sold as part of auctions to raise funds for different charity actions.

Mini Soccer Balls

Mini soccer balls are included in the size three category according to the soccer balls classification, and they work well for juggling and for children’s games. There are people who’d buy mini soccer balls just to add them to a collection or to get them autographed when going to important matches where they meet favorite players. Less expensive than regular balls, the mini versions can be offered as gifts for active kids who love playing; they are not expensive at all and they can be purchased from any regular sports store or, for online shoppers, the balls can be theirs with a basic order.

Mini soccer balls have a great suitability for promotional purposes; visitors and customers at open air business events and shows are offered such items either as thank you gifts or to promote the image of the company. Company details, full messages, logos and symbols are usually printed on such mini soccer balls, and thus the ball fulfills its function as a reminder or advertiser. Promotional mini soccer balls are purchased in large quantities by various corporations and then custom-printed. Moreover, when one large brand is releasing a new soccer gear line it is often common practice to give mini soccer balls as presents.

Mini soccer balls are not manufactured of the best materials available. The linings inside the balls are often made from some leftovers from other balls sizes, and the same is true about the coverings. The idea is not to create a lower quality product, but to use all resources well and save as much money as possible. Plus, the fact that less valuable materials are used in the design of mini soccer balls is justified by the functions that these items are normally going to serve for: practice and children’s games.

Hence, mini soccer balls have a limited range of usage and the expectations are not high. Unlike professional and match balls, these mini variants have no special features or extended warranties. However, certain quality standards need to be met for such items too: for instance, the bounce, the inflation, the balance and the speed have to be at least satisfactory. Depending on the bladder material, butyl or natural rubber, air loss often occurs and then you have to periodically inflate the balls. You can test the air tension inside by simply pressing the ball with the hand.

Official Soccer Ball

In the popular game of soccer or football, the most important piece of equipment is obviously the ball. Before the modern invention of the official soccer ball, the early history of the game mentions all sorts of improvised balls made of human heads, skulls, bladders and wrapped up cloths. In the Middle Ages, inflated animal bladders were the most frequently used balls, and gradually they started being covered in leather. Charles Goodyear patented vulcanized rubber in 1836 and became the father of the first official soccer ball in 1855. Then, inflatable bladders started being produced in 1862, after H.J. Lindon invented them.

When talking of the official soccer ball, you have to think of the soccer ball from the temporal perspective. There have been more than just one official soccer ball models used, at least in the 20th century and up to the present. Another aspect regarding the official soccer balls used in time is that of the manufacturing companies that have been entrusted to produce these items. Thus we ought to refer to Puma, Brine, Nike or Adidas that design soccer balls according to the rules and regulations established by the international football organisms and associations (FIFA).

One official soccer ball was the Telstar (Star of Television) used in Mexico in 1970. Adidas started to produce soccer balls in 1963; they created the first official FIFA World Cup ball in 1970. It was the first ball that had 32 black and white panels and it was more easily noticeable on black and white televisions. Two Adidas soccer balls were used in Germany, in 1974. Telstar was reissued but this time the gold branding was replaced by a black one. Then Adidas produced the official soccer ball in an all-black version which was named Adidas Chile, after an all-white ball previously tested in Chile in 1962. Both the techniques and materials used in Telstar and Chile were the same as those used in the making of the balls in 1970.

Among the other balls that got the official soccer ball status there are: Tango Durlast 1978 with lots of elegance, passion and dynamism, Tango Espana, 1982 designed in natural leather, Azteca, Mexico 1986, a premiere of polyurethane rain resistant coated ball, Etrvsco Unico, Italy, or in 1990 the first ball based on an internal polyurethane foam layer.

Indoor Soccer Ball

Outdoor and indoor variants is one of the many classifications related to soccer balls and their specific features. The coverage is represents the major change with indoor soccer balls: this outer layer is in fact a felt type material very similar to the one used in the making of tennis balls. Besides this, there are no other technical peculiarities encountered with indoor soccer ball models that are not also present in outdoor balls.

The need for the felt coverage specific to indoor soccer ball models comes from the specificity of the ground or location where this sport is performed. While on a grass field the bouncing properties and the adherence are perfectly matched for an optimal game, the same background specificity influences the quality of the indoors game. In the absence of grass the properties of the field change. This means that the indoor soccer ball needs a good adherence with a significant easiness of movement.

Most companies specialized in the production of soccer gear provide indoor soccer ball models of various sizes, with latex or butyl bladders, with 32, 26 or 16 panels and extensive warranty. If you only need an indoor soccer ball to practice on your own or have fun with friends, it is not a must to purchase a brand name or a very specialized item. You should be able to practice and enjoy an amateurish match even with an indoor soccer ball produced by some no-name company.

There are three different sizes available for general soccer ball models as well: thus you can choose from size three, size four and size five, each corresponding to a group age category. Thus, children up to eight should use a size three ball, while size four is suitable the age group between 8 and 12. Anyone older than 13 qualifies for size five. However, the size of the indoor soccer ball could differ according to the laws of specific league.

The fact that indoor soccer is played on smaller fields with smaller goals, size four is generally chosen for most professional indoor leagues. Nevertheless, from league to league, other requirements may have to be met in terms of ball features as well. The factors that will therefore influence the choice of the ball also include control strategy and usage capacity besides size. Hence, unless for amateurish practice, choice criteria are really important!

Brine Soccer Ball

Adidas, Brine, Nike and Puma are the sports brands that dominate the soccer gear market and more. It’s surely hard to decide what to buy when you’re faced with a huge collection of soccer balls belonging to one of these producers. The collections are so comprehensive, the products have such excellent quality standards that maybe the first impression can make a difference. Thus, one gets to buy a Brine soccer ball just because she/he likes the way it looks. Plus, more decent prices and discounts are available to online shoppers.

Here are just a few examples of the best Brine soccer ball types that have so far outsold and served well in championships and professional competitions. Triumph 20-600 is the official approved ball of The NCAA Soccer Championship of 2007 and 2008. The product features are amazing; the control, trajectory and great touch are closely related to the careful symmetric design and the polyurethane cover of this Brine soccer ball. Plus, the perfect spin and the roundness are enhanced by the latex bladder, although thread stitches and the hand-sewn cover significantly contribute to the great feel of this soccer ball on the field.

Several other Brine soccer ball models enjoy official approval for soccer championships. Triumph 20-500 is a relevant example here. The difference from the 600 version results from the bounce features and the mechanism for air retention. Otherwise, the technology used in the manufacturing is the same and so are the features. The optimal play and the resistance to abrasion is related to the polyurethane covering common for both the 20-600 and 20-500 variants. The list of examples could go on, but they are all relevant for each other and for the company’s line of production.

A Brine soccer ball does not come cheap; occasionally there are all sorts of discounts available but you have to search well in order to get a bargain. Unless you have high aspirations as a professional player, you may waste your money on a brand name item. Yes, quality speaks for itself, but it is difficult to appreciate the features of a Brine soccer ball if you hardly have any soccer skill. It’s a pity not to fully enjoy the excellent features of a quality ball. Think about it before shopping for something in the big league!
